One of the best kept secrets about Nashville is Leipers Fork. A little village about 30 miles south of Nashville, near Franklin, TN. It boasts a population of around 400 of the friendliest people you will ever have the pleasure of knowing.
It is nestled between beautiful rolling green hills and pastures of horses & cattle. Big old southern farm houses are dotted along the road. This historic village dates back to before the civil war and was a trading route of the Natchez Indian tribe.
Leipers Fork is town filled with musicians, artists, creatives and has its fair share of celebrities mixed in. You may just see Carrie Underwood or Justin Timberlake getting breakfast at Country Boy restaurant in town.
My wife fell in love with it from 3000 miles away. True story.
We were living in California at the time when one day my wife asks me casually what I am doing next Wednesday. I said “why”. “ Do you want to go to Nashville?”.
Again, I said “why?”.
“Because I found a miniature donkey farm for sale and I think were going to move there”, she says as if this were a normal thing to say. To make a long story short the next week we were on a plane to Nashville to look at a miniature donkey farm called Wit’s End in Leipers Fork, TN. Somewhere I had never even heard of.
Now we did not end up buying that farm (we found another one close by), but we both fell in love with Leipers Fork and never looked back.

When we moved in, neighbors stopped by to introduce themselves and ask if we needed help. Some brought homemade jam & cookies.
One kind stranger changed a flat tire on our vintage 1965 Ford truck that had just arrived. He even went home to get the tools to do so. Everyone welcomed us with open arms. Even a simple call to the city to ask some questions about zoning was met with a long conversation about how we were doing today.
And then there were the creative and unusual events that go on throughout the year.
Summertime? Well there is the Leipers Fork Lawnchair Theatre where a different movie is shown every week outdoors.
In the Fall there is the Leipers Fork Creek Party where tables and chandeliers are set up IN the creek for a dinner party. Make sure to wear your Wellies and bring a dish to pass.
In the Spring there is Feaster where 400 residents gather in a field and have Easter dinner. Again bring a dish to pass and your fine china. And don’t forget to bring a dish to pass and pick up after yourself “because we ain’t your mama”.
And of course there is the World Famous Leipers Fork Christmas parade which is really as great as it sounds. The whole town comes together (and we mean the whole town including pigs & donkeys & cows) to celebrate Christmas.
Leipers Fork really is a magical place. I like to say it is like living in Mayberry.
A simpler time where people had a sense of community and belonging. Pretty hard to find in the world right now. But it still does exist just south of Nashville.
